The hill of the Montecchio Farm dominates the historic medieval village of San Donato in Poggio. We are in the heart of the oldest part of the Florentine part of Chianti Classico!
The beautiful, historical Villa, the centre of the Farm, once belonged to the Marquises of Torrigiani and is distinguished by solid, square layout and the marked colour contrast between stone and plaster. The main façade has an imposing portal surmounted by the Torrigiani family stem.
The Farm covers an area of 273 hectares of which over 30 are occupied by specialized vineyards that in future will reach 50 hectares, over 20 hectares by olive groves and 40 hectares by crops. The altitude is ideal for Chianti Classico, between 250 and 350 metres above sea level, and the ground (marl and limestone) and exposure (south-est/south-west) are also perfect.
Below, the villa, the ancient cellars, hewn out of the living rock still remain intact, their natural environmental conditions being perfect for the long and natural ageing process which the wine from this ‘manor‘ undergoes. The wine is subjected to the true ‘Chiantigiana‘ fermentation process following a method that hasn‘t changed in over 400 years, giving the wine its unparalled roundness of flavour and unmistakeable vivacity, its delicate bouquet of violets and its brilliant ruby hue. The natural ageing process lasts for at least three years in oaken vats, where the wine lies resting, refining its natural qualities, and finally becoming that nectar that for centuries has delighted the palate of kings.
Inside the farm, nearby to the wine cellars where Chianti Classico DOCG is produced, is possible to taste and to purchase wine, oil and grappa of great personality, in a splendid frame constituted from old strokes of seasoned wood.

Free tastings of our produce (wine/oil/vin santo/grappa/honey) are offered at our Farm Shop. We are open every day from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Bookings not necessary.
