Alessandria is one of the most active and lively towns of the north west. Alessandria, lying on the banks of the river Tanaro, takes its name from Pope Alessandro III. Historic symbol of Alessandria is without doubt the piazza della Liberta, in which is situated the palazzo del Comune which has on its facade a truly particular clock and the palazzo della Prefettura, typical example of baroque town art.
