Aosta lies on a plain surrounded by glaciers and magnificent mountains. It was founded in the time of Augustus in 25 BC and for this reason there are many fascinating Roman remains here that are among the most important in northern Italy. In the city centre you’ll find the Temple, the Forum and the Cryptoporticus while outside the city there is the Arch of Augustus and the Roman Bridge.
