Barletta is the Chief Town together with Andria and Trani of the province of Barletta-Andria-Trani in Puglia. The borough of Barletta includes the hamlet of Canne, an archaeological site noted for the famous battle won by Hannibal and since 2005, city of art of Puglia Region for it's architectural characteristics. Overlooking the Adriatic Coast and set in the Vale of Ofanto, the town has an architectural heritage from various periods and civilizations: the Castle, the Cathedral, the Holy Sepulchre, the bronze Colossus, numerous Renaissance churches and buildings. All theses features make the town of Barletta one of the most interesting in Puglia,  famous also as the birthplace of the impressionist painter Giuseppe de Nittis, many paintings of which can be admired in Barletta.
