It would be impossible even to attempt to describe all the beautiful historical and artistic delights that Florence, one of the most loved and visited cities in the world, offers to tourists. Therefore we shall try to summarise, however short and bluntly, the most important sights of this unmatched Tuscan city, famous for being crossed by the river Arno, for being the birthplace of the immortal figures of Dante and Lorenzo the Magnificent and for being a shrine to the arts of incalculable worth. In 1966 Florence suffered an appalling blow when a flood devastated the city and destroyed irreplaceable works of art.
