GUBBIO CITY
Gubbio is a municipality in the province of Perugia, in Umbria. The total area of the municipality is the largest in the region and the seventh in Italy. It is part of the Alto Chiascio Mountain Community, the Italian City of Truffles Association and the Italian City of Ceramics Association. The territory is mainly hilly and mountainous. The town lies at the foot of Mount Ingino with the river Camignano running through it. The weather in winter varies between cold and mild with rigid temperatures being prevalent due to the influence of the nearby Apennines and snow often falls. Gubbio is closely tied to the story of Saint Francis, in particular with an event recorded in the XXI chapter of the Little Flowers of Saint Francis, his meeting with the wolf. Saint Francis found refuge in Gubbio, after leaving Assisi, with the Spadalonga family. For this reason Gubbio is considered to be the second Franciscan capital.
