IGLESIAS CITY
Iglesias is located in the south western corner of the island of Sardinia, an area where nature and history are interwoven and uncontrasted. Set at the foot of Mount Marganai, the town has always been tied to the mining industry and since prehistoric times the riches underground have always been exploited. Tha ancient name of the town was Villa di Chiesa but under the Aragonese domain it was translated into Iglesias, that is “Chiesa”(Church) and it couldn't have a more appropriate name given the large number of churches to be found here: the church of San Marcello, the Purissima, the church of Sant’Antonio Abate, of San Giuseppe and many more. Summer holidays here are superb, swimming in the crystal clear sea: long sandy beaches alternate with fascinating inlets for many miles, surrounded by lush Mediterranean vegetation, offering peace and natural wellbeing.
