LODI CITY

Lodi is the provincial capital of the region and is located at 87 metres above sea level on the right bank of the river Adda. Historically it was a Roman settlement but in the 12th century it was destroyed by the Milanese and subsequently was rebuilt by Frederick I (The Barbarossa) owing to its strategic location on the river Po. Its memorable tourist highlights are the Duomo, the Broletto, the Santuario dell‘Incoronata and numerous Gothic churches, the most important of which is the church of San Francesco. There are also churches and buildings in the rococo style which include the Palazzo del Vescovo and the church and Palazzo di San Filippo.
