MONZA CITY
Monza is a town located in Lombardy, Main Town of the province of Monza and the Brianza, just a few kilometers from Milan. The origins of the town date back to the time of the Celts but its most important historic period was during the the time of the Longbards, in the VII century. The most important monument is the Duomo or Basilica of San Giovanni Battista, that holds the Iron Crown with which illustrious historical figures were crowned, starting with Charlemagne. In the centre of the town lies the Arengario, the Town Hall, built in 1923, in front of which stretches the magnificent Viale Cesare Battisti, laid out by the Napoleonic Viceroy Beauharnais. The imposing and magnificent Villa Reale is a jewel of neoclassical style and was built between 1776 and 1780 under the guidance of the architect Giuseppe Piermarini, designer of the Scala Theatre in Milan. A visit to the park surrounding the villa is a must: eight hundred hectares of greenery that make Monza a place where you can breath and relax, whether visitor or inhabitant of Milan.
