Palermo lies in a wonderful position on the Gulf of Palermo and is surrounded on three sides by mountains, to the north the Pellegrini Mountains, to the north west Mount Castellaccio and to the west Mount Cuccio. It‘s millenary history has rewarded the city with a remarkable artistic and architectural patrimony, ranging from the remains of the Punic walls to Art Deco villas and on to Norman-Arabian style residences, Baroque churches and Neoclassic theatres.
