PIACENZA CITY

Piacenza is situated 61 meters above sea level on a plain to the right of the river Po, it was once a roman colony. You can admire it’s elliptical shape which maintains a central nucleus with a close regular net of streets radiating out from it. The Cathedral is a wonderful example of Lombard Romanesque (1122-1233) with it’s characteristic façade and Bell Tower from 1333. The church of S. Antonino, the ancient cathedral, was founded in the 4th century but was rebuilt in the 11th then transformed in the 13th; in 1350 a Gothic atrium, named Paradiso, was added to it. Other churches to remember are that of S. Savino, which still has parts from the 12th century and the Gothic S. Francesco, founded in 1278.
