PIAZZA ARMERINA CITY
Piazza Armerina is a town in the province of Enna in Sicily. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997 for the Villa del Casale. Piazza Armerina lies inland from the Bay of Gela, on a hill in the southern Erei mountains, in central Sicily, at an altitude of almost 700 m. The town, one of the most important in the province, is set among dense, extensive, mixed woodland with predominance of eucalyptus trees, stretching at it's feet from north to south. Present in all tourist packages of Sicily, Piazza Armerina is one of the most popular and valued destinations of the island, distinguishing itself as a famous area for archaeological and cultural visits. Every year, about 600,000 visitors, from all over the world, visit the Roman Villa del Casale, being one of the most visited of all Roman art sites. The most important event is the Palio dei Normanni, which takes place between the 12th and 14th August.
