Reggio Calabria is the provincial capital and is situated at 31 metres a.s.l. on the eastern coast of the Messina Strait right at the foot of Aspromonte. The province of Reggio Calabria overlooks to the west the Tyrrhenian Sea and to the south and east the Ionian Sea. It borders on the province of Catanzaro to the north east and with Vibo Valentia to the north west, to the south west it lies 3,2 km from Sicily.
