Sassari is the provincial capital and is situated in the north west of Sardinia. From the 12th century onwards it grew in importance due to it’s position on the commercial route from the sea to the inland towns becoming the capital of the judiciary of Torres. Sassari is one of the few towns that doesn’t seem deserted at the beginning of August as it is then that the famous traditional procession of the Faradda dei Candelieri takes place. Not only hundreds of tourists come to see it but also thousands of Sassaresi.
