LAKE BOLSENA

Lake Bolsena was formed over 300,000 years ago following the eruptions and collapse of volcanoes in the Mount Vusini chain. It lies in the northern part of the province of Viterbo, in an area known as the Alta Tuscia and a large part of the lake sides are touched by the famous “Cassia” road. There are numerous lovely resorts round the lake offering simple accommodation in bed & breakfast, camp sites or holiday farms, all perfect for nature lovers. The towns overlooking the lake are: Bolsena, Montefiascone, Marta, Capodimonte, Valentano, Gradoli, Grotte di Castro and San Lorenzo Nuovo. The town of Latera must also be counted, although it doesn't overlook the lake there are some views from the Montagnola Pass and the Cantoniera district.
