LAKE FIÈ
Lake Fiè (Völser Weiher in German) is a small alpine lake located on the Fiè Plateau at 1036 m, in the borough of Fiè allo Sciliar (BZ), about 25 km from Bolzano. The lake, surrounded by fir trees, lies at the foot of the Sciliar Massif and the Punta Santner. It is fed by a spring that was called Blood of Sciliar, due to it's location in an area, where in prehistoric times, animal sacrifices and propitiatory rites were carried out. About half of the lake is occupied by a cane thicket (biotope of the Fiè Lake). To the west, about 10 minutes walk away, there's a second artificial lake, created by Leonhard I von Völs, Lord of Tirolo and captain of the Adige Region. The lake was created for breeding carp and irrigating the surrounding fields. Even today you can still practice recreational fishing.
