Lake Penne lies between the areas of Gran Sasso and the Maiella just a few miles from the town Penne. It is an artificial lake created by damming the river Tavo and since 1987 is one of the major nature reserves in this region. Some of the attractions of the reserve are the Centre for Environmental Studies, the Birds of Prey Rehabilitation Centre and the many nature trails.
