Lake Pergusa is the only natural lake remaining in Sicily (after the draining of lake Lentini) and lies only a few kilometers from Enna. It is quite small but of great geological, faunal and cultural importance and for this reason the first Special Nature Reserve of the Region of Sicily was instituted while the European Union has declared the lake a Site of Community Importance.
