LAKE POZZILLO
Lake Pozzillo, located in central Sicily, is the largest artificial lake on the island and was created by damming the river Salso (tributary of the river Simeto) in the vicinity of Regalbuto. It lies in the centre of Sicily, in the province of Enna between the last ramifications of the Erei and Nebrodi Mountains. The waters of the river Salso together with those of many streams that tumble down from the surrounding hills all flow into the lake. All around there are woods made up mainly of Eucalyptus trees. Lake Pozzillo has a capacity of 150 million cubic meters of water, some of which is used for local agriculture. Some sporting facilities have sprung up round the lake, also a multipurpose sports centre, rowing is an important sport carried out on a regional level with many competitions taking place each year also important national events.
