Abetone is one of the most well known resorts in the Apennine Mountain Chain and is located on the pass of the same name which lies between Tuscany and Emilia Romagna. The name comes from the enormous fir (abete) tree, cut down to allow the construction of the road connecting the two regions. The ski resort comprises the areas of Abetone, Val di Luce, Sestaione, Lima and Scoltenna connected by one ski pass.
