The Alto Sangro Mountain Community and the Cinquemiglia Plateau is a mountain community that comprises the upper valley of the river Sangro and the Maggiore Plateau. The territory of the Alto Sangro Mountain Community and the Cinquemiglia Plateau occupies the south western most part of the Abruzzo Region bordering with Lazio and Alto Molise. The territory of the Mountain Community is characterized by thick woodland and forests, populated by rare flora and fauna, with numerous springs and watercourses, natural and artificial lakes, lush meadows and peaks rising to over 2000 metres. It also comprises the most interesting and significant part of the Abruzzo National Park.
