DIANO VALLEY

The Valley of Diano is a fertile upland at an altitude of 450 meters in the south of the Campania region. The valley, enclosed in the mountain chains of the Maddalena and the Alburni, in the Pleistocene was occupied by a lake and is now part of the Cilento and Valley of Diano National Park. Due to it‘s geographic position it is an obligatory transit area for the extreme south of Italy and for this reason the Romans built the via Annia in 128 BC and the Visigoths of Alarico crossed it during their invasion of 410 AD.
