FIEMME VALLEY
The Vale of Fiemme (Fleimstal in German) is one of the main Dolomite valleys and is located in eastern Trentino. The valley, together with the Vale of Fassa and the Vale of Cembra, make up the catchment area of the Avisio, left tributary of the river Adige. From an administrative point of view, the Trentina part of the Vale of Fiemme forms the territorial Community of the Vale of Fiemme, one of the communities of the valley in the province created in 2006 by a provincial law. With it's 11 towns, it is delimited by famous mountains such as the Lagorai Chain, the Pale di San Martino and the Latemar group. It is also in the middle of two nature parks, the Paneveggio Pale di San Martino and the Monte Corno in Alto Adige. Two parks near to each other but different for the variety of fauna and flora. The whole of the Vale of Fiemme could be defined as a park, thanks to the vast expanse of woodlands, cultivated with respect to nature over the centuries, that has been one of the most important sources of livelyhood for the local people, especially in the past.
