GRAN SASSO

 

The Gran Sasso (or Gran Sasso d'Italia) is the highest mountain range of the continental Apennines on the border between Aquila, Teramo and Pescara. To the north it borders on the territory of Fano Adriano, Pietracamela, Isola del Gran Sasso d'Italia, Castelli and Arsita, to the east with the Gole di Popoli, to the south with Campo Imperatore (and beyond, the foothills of the Scindarella, Portella and Pizzo Cefalone Mountains and the Assergi Plain), while to the west north-west it borders with the Laga Mountains and Lake Campotosto. The Gran Sasso d'Italia is an area protected by the Gran sasso and Laga Mountains National Park.
