LEPINI MOUNTAINS

The Lepini Mountains are a chain of mountains belonging to the Lazio Antiappennino, lying entirely in Lazio between the provinces of Latina and Rome with a small part in the province of Frosinone. To their north are the Colli Albani, to the east the Vale of the Ciociaria, to the south the Ausoni Mountains and to the west the Agro Pontino. The highest peak is Mount Semprevisa at 1536m. It seems the name stems from the Latin word "lapis", meaning stone composed of calcareous reliefs. The Lepini Mountains, under the protection of the Mountain Communities Authority, are composed of two main lesser chains: one south-western (the main one) and the other north-eastern.
