The Mugello is a geographic area of Tuscany located north of Florence. The landscape of the Mugello is marked by a wide band of mountains and hills sloping down to a plain beside the river Sieve. This plain is highly populated but the whole territory is dotted with villages and farmsteads. The Mugello is contained entirely in the province of Florence and the boroughs traditionally belonging to it are Barberino di Mugello, Borgo San Lorenzo, Dicomano, San Piero a Sieve, Scarperia, Vaglia and Vicchio.
