ROCCHE PLATEAU
The Rocche Plateau (or Velino-Sirente Plateau) is a carsic plateau of the central Apennines that stretches from the ridges of the Velino, to the north west, to that of the Sirente to the south east, covering an area of over 290 sq. km. and is part of the Sirente-Velino Regional Nature Park. Lying within the territory of the boroughs of Ovindoli, Rocca di Mezzo and Rocca di Cambio (from which it takes it's name) it is, at the most, 14 km in length and 5 km wide and is composed of three large plains, from north to south Piano di Ovindoli, Campo di Rovere and Prata di Rocca di Mezzo, that vary in altitude from 1200 to 1400 meters above sea level, with few slopes, evidence of ancient glaciers in the Mesozoic period. A winter and summer holiday destination offering the superb skiing areas of Ovindoli-Monte Magnola and Campo Felice with excellent facilities and activities such as cross country skiing, riding, mountain bike and walking trails.
