SESTAIONE VALLEY

The Sestaione Valley is located in the Tuscan-Emiliano Apennines, in the northern part of the Province of Pistoia. The river Sestaione flows through the valley, it‘s a tributary of the river La Lima, which in turn is a tributary of the river Serchio that flows into the Tyrrhenian Sea. The Vale of Sestaione is important for it‘s environmental, scenic, forestation and scientific aspects. There are three nature reserves and protected areas recognised by the Region of Tuscany: the Campolino Nature Reserve, the Botanic Gardens and Forest of Abetone and the Piano degli Ontani Bio-genetic Nature Reserve.
