VALLAGARINA VALLEY - TRENTINO ALTO ADIGE

The Vallagarina Valley is actually the last part of the valley through which the river Adige flows. The upper limit is usually taken to be at a narrow point of the valley, known as "Murazzi" just north of the town of Besenello, about 10km south of Trento: to the north of which the valley takes the name of Vale of Adige. The lower limit is where the river runs into the Padana plain at the Chiusa di Ceriano. The most northern parts of the valley through which the river Adige runs are known as Venosta valley, between the sources and Merano, and Vale of Adige between Merano and the beginning of Vallagarina. From an orographic point of view the valley separates the Pre-Alps of Brescia to the west from the Venetian Pre-Alps to the east.
