CALANCHI DI ATRI NATURE RESERVE
The Calanchi di Atri Nature Reserve is a protected nature area of the Adriatic Abruzzo, founded in 1995. It comprises an area of about 380 acres, located completely in the territory of the borough of Atri, antique city of art in the province of Teramo and only a few kilometres from Pescara. Recently it was given over to the WWF through a cooperative. Despite the outward appearance that might suggest a scarcity of plant species you can actually find wild gladioli, capers and liquorice. The reserve extends further than the formation of erosion furrows (calanchi) and you can also find willows, white poplars, elder and clematis. To reach the reserve you can take the Atri-Pineto exit of the A14 Adriatic motorway, then follow the indications for Atri center (7km from the motorway exit), after which follow the brown signs indicating the reserve.
