CESINE NATURE RESERVE

The Cesine Nature Reserve is located in the borough of Vernole in the province of Lecce. In the Salento on the Puglia coast small ponds known as “cesine” can still be found. The Cesine is without doubt the largest wetland area of the Salento. The two pools Salapi and Pantano Grande, fed by rainwater, are separated from the sea by a narrow strip of sandy dunes. The wetland is one of the last remaining piece of marshland that stretched from Brindisi to Otranto and constitutes an area of many diverse natural habitats, each with it‘s own typical vegetation.
