CILENTO AND VALLO DI DIANO NATIONAL PARK

The Cilento and Vallo di Diano National Park was established in 1991 and covered an area of 36,000 hectares in the province of Salerno. Subsequent enlargements brought it to an area of 180,000 hectares. It now corrisponds to the southern part of the province between the Sele plain to the north, the Basilicata to the East and South and the Tyrrhenian Sea to the West. It also includes, all or part of, the 8 Mountain Towns and 80 boroughs. Since 1991 it is a World Heritage Site (with the temples of Paestum and the Certosa di Padula) and since 1997 Biosphere Reserve.
