GARGANO NATIONAL PARK

The Gargano National Park is a protected area founded in 1991. It is located in Puglia, in the extreme north-eastern part, often defined as the "Spur of Italy". The park lies entirely in the Province of Foggia and is the part of Italy nearest to the Croatian coast. It covers an area of 118.114 hectares. The Gargano Consortium of Communes in Mountain Areas and the four Tremiti Islands (marine reserve) are all part of the park. The Umbra Forest also lies within the park confines.
