GOLE DI SAN VENANZIO NATURE RESERVE

The Gole di San Venanzio Nature Reserve is a protected nature area instituted with the law n°84 of the Abruzzo Region in 1998. It covers an area of 1072 acres, almost all in the territory of the borough of Raiano. The reserve coincides largely to the homonymous site of community interest and is an ecological corridor of great importance between the Majella National Park and the Sirente Velino Regional Park, as it is home to an important heritage of  biodiversity. The point where the river Aterno leaves the gorges is marked by the spectacular and evocative Eremo of San Venanzio and marks the passage to the fertile and lush floodplain with it's cultivated fields and natural riverside woodlands. A network of pathways in the reserve allow you to visit the main points of interest.
