The Gran Sasso and Mountains of the Laga National Park is one of the largest in Italy and lies within the provinces of L‘Aquila, Teramo, Pescara, Ascoli Piceno and Rieti. Within it‘s confines rises the Corno Grande to an altitude of 2914 meters, the highest peak of the Apennines that dominates the surrounding peaks, all over 2000 meters. The splendid calcareous rock formations of the eastern side of the massif gives it a definite Dolomitic appearance.
