INSUGHERATA NATURE RESERVE
The Insugherata Nature Reserve is a protected nature area of the Lazio Region. It covers an area of 740 acres in the territory of the borough of Rome, between the via Trionfale and the via Cassia, and has numerous archaeological artefacts within it's confines as well as being a natural corridor between the urban area to the north of Rome and the Veio-Cesano nature area, to the north west of the capital. The new perimeters and recent work on the GRA (Grande Raccordo Anulare) have considerably reduced the protected area north of the Raccordo Anulare. In the reserve over 630 flower species have been registered, of which 44 unique to the reserve: the protected area that contains the major part of the grasses censused in Rome. It gets it's name from the numerous cork oaks in the reserve.
