The Monterano Nature Reserve, founded in 1988, protects one of the most symbolic and unspoilt parts of the Tuscia Romana, between the Tolfa and the Sabatini Mountains, which are under the care of another protected area. The nature reserve, visited every year by thousands of people from Italy and Europe, was expanded in 1993 and now covers an area of over 1000 hectares, home to a great variety of landscapes and an abundant biodiversity.
