NEBRODI PARK

The Nebrodi Park, with it‘s great variety of landscapes including vast woodlands, wide valleys, rivers and a series of marshlands, represents one of the largest and diversified faunistic areas of Sicily. The woodland, covering over 50,000 hectares, has a great influence on the climate of the Nebrodi territory, with long, cold winters and hot, dry summers, unlike the coastal areas and the rest of Sicily. The Nebrodi, together with the Madonie to the west and the Peloritani to the east, make up the Sicilian Apennines. To the north they overlook the Tyrrhenian Sea, while their southern boundary is marked by Mount Etna, in particular by the river Alcantara and by the upper course of the river Simeto. The range of elevation is remarkable as they rise from a height of a few metres to an altitude of 1847 metres of Mount Soro. Other notable peaks are the Serra del Re (1754 m) Pizzo Fau (1686 m) and Serra Pinataro (1661 m).
