ROCCAMONFINA AND FOCE GARIGLIANO REGIONAL PARK
The Roccamonfina and Foce Garigliano Regional Park is one of the protected areas of the Campania Region and covers an area of about 9,000 hectares. It is dominated by the Roccamonfina Volcano and is bordered to the north-west by the river Garigliano, to the north-east by the Mount Cesima chain and to the south-east by the Massico mountain chain. The Roccamonfina volcano (1,006 m) is the oldest volcano of the Campania and for size it's the fourth largest in Italy. Very similar to Vesuvius, but much larger. The date of 204 b.C. given to it by some historians, also contemporary, are without scientific evidence as all the productivity of the volcano's eruptions are prior to the Campania Ingimbrite eruption and therefore dates back to over 50,000 years ago.
