SCILIAR NATURE PARK
The Sciliar-Catinaccio Nature Park (in German Naturpark Schlern-Rosengarten) is a nature area covering 6,796 acres, located in the mountain chain of the western Dolomites in Alto Adige. The park was founded in 1974, the first of seven parks in the province of Bolzano, and together with the Area of Landscape Conservation of the Siusi Alps it forms a vast nature area. The park is famous for two of it's mountain peaks: the Punta Santer and the Punta Euringer. The highest point of the Sciliar (Schlern) is Mount Petz with it's 2,563 metres. Since 2003 the Catinaccio is also part of the nature area. The Steger Säge Information Center, the park visitor center, was opened near Bagni di Lavina Bianca (Weißlahnbad), in the borough of Tires. The center is housed in an old water mill that was used to power a hydraulic sawmill, from 1598 to the end of the 1950s. Other than this visitor center, there's also an information point (Infostelle Völser Weiher) at Lake Fiè. The park comprises the territory of the boroughs of Castelrotto, Tires and Fiè allo Sciliar.
