SIMBRUINI MOUNTAINS REGIONAL NATURE PARK
The Simbruini Mountains Regional Nature Park is a protected area of the Lazio Region, with peaks reaching to a height of 2000 meters, extensive beech woods, wide carsic plains and a wealth of spring waters, characterised by small villages (the seven municipalities of the Park) rich in historic and artistic evidence sometimes thousand of years old. The Simbruini Mountains Regional Park covers an area of about 30,000 acres, between the Vale of Aniene to the west - north west, the Vale of Sacco to the south west and the border with Abruzzo and to the east (Simbruini d'Abruzzo and Carseolani mountains) and to the south east the Ernici mountains. In the mountain areas the compact vegetation (macchia) makes the forest floor poor in species except for various types of mushroom (among which the edible: porcini, champignons, chanterelles and parasol mushrooms). Very important for man and for the animlas are the forest fruits such as alpine currants, cranberries, raspberries and stawberries.
