TUSCAN ARCHIPELAGO NATIONAL PARK

The Tuscan Archipelago National Park includes the seven islands of the Tuscan Archipelago: Elba, Capraia, Gorgona, Pianosa, Montecristo, Giglio and Giannutri. The islands are of very differing geological formation: Capraia is volcanic, Giglio and Elba are mainly granite. A great geological variety that influences the shape and landscape of each island. The presence of man since ancient times, testified by findings and a long tradition of mineral mining, has produced profound changes in the original vegetation and only a small part of the holm oak woods can be found on some parts of Elba, while the Mediterranean “macchia” vegetation is dominant.
