The Vale of Orfento Nature Reserve is an authentic "Garden of Eden" set in the borough of the well known spa resort of Caramanico Terme. The protected area is, without doubt, one of the most beautiful, wild and spectacular areas in the whole of Abruzzo, covering a wide territory that rises from 500 to 2600 m and is covered by immense, lush beech woods crossed by numerous canyons rich in water and roaring waterfalls. Excursions in the valleys take from 2 to 8 hours with trails of various difficulties. The area also has a wealth of hermitages, more or less accessable, set into the rock face.
