The Bay of the Poets is a wide and deep inlet on the coast of the Ligurian Sea, located on the eastern part of the Liguria region. The bay gets it‘s name from the city of La Spezia, set in a central position on the same bay, where there‘s a major port. At the two extremities of the bay lie the villages of Porto Venere and Lerici, both popular holiday resorts. The Bay of the Poets represents one of the four parts in which The Province of La Spezia can be subdivided, together with the Riviera, the Cinque Terre, the Vale of Vara and the Vale of Magra.
