CAPO VATICANO

Capo Vaticano is a superb beach resort in the municipality of Ricardi (VV) with a wealth of facilities usually offering entertainment services. The promontory of Capo Vaticano rises to a height of 124 meters and is composed of a particular type of blue-grey granite, studied world wide for it‘s geological characteristics. Of great interest are the giant ferns and the dwarf palm trees on the tiny island of “Il Palombaro” as well as the presence of marine sediments from the Quaternary period that make Capo Vaticano an obligatory destination for Paleontologists. Capo Vatican is famous for being the best territory in the world for growing red onions, with a particularly sweet flavour, also known as red onions of Tropea. Due in fact, to certain substances contained in the soil "only those grown in Capo Vaticano are sweet" and are highly sought after on the domestic and international market. The beautiful beaches and crystal clear sea rich in fish life also make Capo Vaticano a favourite destination for divers and holiday makers, Germans first and foremost, also attracted by a hinterland which offers typical produce such as: 'Nduja di Spilinga (Spicy sausage) and Pecorino del Poro (Sheep's milk cheese).
