EGADI ISLANDS

The Egadi Islands form an archipelago of three major and two minor islands, lying about 7 km from the western coast of Sicily, between Marsala and Trapani. Administratively they form the municipality of Favignana. Typical dishes of the Egadi are based on cous cous and fish specialities such as marinated tuna fish or grilled sword fish. Tinned tuna in olive oil, dried fish roe (bottarga) and salted tuna are all products of these islands. The archipelago is made up of: Island of Favignana; Island of Levanzo; Island of Marettimo; Island of Maraone; Formica island; Stagnone island; Galera island; Galeotta island; Faraglione. The archipelago is affected by the Egadi Islands Marine nature reserve. The climate is extremely mild during the winter and the long summers are sunny and hot.
