ELBA ISLAND

The enchanting Elba Island, in the Tuscan Archipelago, in the province of Livorno, is the third largest among the Italian islands and is divided into 8 boroughs: Portoferraio, Porto Azzurro, Campo nell’Elba, Capoliveri, Marciana, Marciana Marina, Rio Marina and Rio nell’Elba. It is almost impossible to describe the varying landscape here from the clear blue sea to the enchanting hilltop villages and the areas under the protection of the National Park. The island of Elba is the largest piece of land that remains of the ancient stretch which joined the Italian peninsular to Corsica, after the other islands of the Tuscan Archipelago. The northern coastline is bathed by the Ligurian Sea, the eastern by the Piombino channel, the southern by the Tyrrhenian Sea and the western by the Corsica channel. The climate of the island is mainly Mediterranean, except Mount Capanne where winters can be quite cold. Rainfall is concentrated mainly in the autumn and proves to be fairly limited. The table below shows the average values reported in Portoferraio.
