FAVIGNANA ISLAND

Fragrant vegetation of every colour and rich in tradition, Favignana is the main island of the Egadi group of which the others are Levanzo, Marettimo. Formica and Maraone. The highest part of Favignana is Mount Santa Caterina. It is an incredibly beautiful island offering visitors breathtaking views and crystal clear sea alternating between blue and turquoise. The coastline is mainly rocky with numerous sandy beaches to the south and the sea is rich in marine life from lobsters and octopus to every type of fish. Favignana is part of the Egadi Islands nature reserve established in 1991. The vegetation is made up of Wild olive, Mastic trees, Carob trees, Euphorbia and Sumac. There are some interesting endemic species such as sea kale, sea marigold and the wild fennel of Boccone. On the eastern side of the island there are many gardens known as hypogea, cared for and cultivated in the now disused tuff stone quarries. Favignana is connected to the port of Trapani by hydrofoils that run regularly. The island of Favignana is also accessable from the other Egadi islands.
