LEVANZO ISLAND

The third largest of the Egadi Islands, Levanzo is composed of hills, the highest being Pizzo del Monaco which slopes steeply into the sea creating a jagged and fascinating coastline. It is the perfect place for nature lovers and only has one road going from north to south. The northern part of the island is a continuous succession of enchanting bays. This is the smallest of the Egadi islands with a surface area of only 5 sq.km. The only village has the same name as the island and is part of the borough of Favignana. It is composed of white limestone rocks with numerous caves. The highest promontory is pizzo Monaco, at 270 metres altitude. On the coast there are fascinating caves, the most famous being the Grotta del Genovese, with it's carvings and rock paintings dating back 11000 years.
