PONZA ISLAND
The island of Ponza is the largest of the Ponziane islands (the archipelago also comprises the island of Gavi, Zannone, Palmarola, Ventotene and Santo Stefano) and is located in the Bay of Gaeta (in the Tyrrhenian sea), 21 nautical miles from Capo Circeo. They belong to the province of Latina, in Lazio. The main economic sector is tourism. Every year, especially in summer, thousands of beach fans and diving enthusiasts come to the island, For this reason the urban centers are dotted with bathing establishments, hotels, restaurants and night clubs as well as diving centers. Some of the inhabitants also go fishing and to a lesser degree, they tend the vines although farming activities are much reduced due to tourism. There's a good system of roads on the island which is accessable by ferries that link the port of Ponza with the mainland ports of Anzio, San Felice Circeo, Formia, Terracina and Naples.
